The S.S. American is preparing to set sail from New York to England. Billy Crocker, a young assistant to Wall Street tycoon Elisha J. Whitney, a passenger on the ship, decides to stow away in hopes of wooing his long-lost love and wealthy debutante, Hope Harcourt, who is also on board. However, much to Billy’s chagrin, Hope’s mother, Evangeline Harcourt, is delighted that Hope is engaged to be married to a stuffy Englishman, Lord Evelyn Oakleigh (who is also onboard), upon arrival in England.
Also on the ship are Reno Sweeney, an evangelist-turned-nightclub singer, and her bevy of “angelic” showgirls, who will be providing music and dance entertainment during the crossing. The ship has no sooner set sail than Reno runs into Billy, an old friend, and he persuades her to help him break upHope’s engagement.
“Moonface” Martin, a gangster known as “Public Enemy 13” and his moll Erma are disguised as a reverend and a missionary, respectively. They have two Chinese “converts” and all four attempt to evade the law while on board. Billy eventually learns the identity of this misfit bunch, and, in exchange for his silence, they too join in the scheme to break up Hope and Lord Evelyn.
After more disguises, ploys, confessions, mistaken identities, and marriage proposals, all done to the fantastic music of Cole Porter, how will everything work out? Who knows? Anything goes!

The auditions for the 2018-2019 edition of The A Cappella Group will be held in the choir room. Any student that wishes to be a member must audition.
Audition Requirements:
1. Sing an unaccompanied solo that is 1 minute or less. This should be a contemporary song and not classical or musical theatre in nature. The song should show off your voice in both style and range. If you are a high soprano, don't sing a song that is really low. You must also PERFORM the solo. Don't just sing it. You need to demonstrate a connection to the lyrics and really be expressive in your performance.
2. Perform your part with other singers. You must learn two pieces of music that will be available on this site by July 1. Hard copies of the music will be available at Cypress starting August 3 and also the first day of school. Choose a part and learn the music. If you are a soprano, most songs have two soprano parts and you can choose which one that you want to learn. If you are an alto, there are usually two alto parts and the tenor 1 part is also sung by altos. If you are a very low alto, you should go for the tenor 1 part. The guys have either tenor 2, baritone or bass to choose from. On the day of the audition, you will sing the song that is designated as the group song together with other people with only one person on each part. This will be done in the choir room with 8 or 9 singers. The song designated as the individual part song will be performed by you in a practice room with just you singing while the mixdown plays in the background. Both part songs will be recorded. This is the most important part of the audition. Part singing is the main thing that you will do in the group and you must be able to be independent and hold your part. Devote most of your time to this part of the audition. Students have been selected to be members of the group with an average solo and great part singing. No student has ever been selected that had an amazing solo, but couldn't hold a harmony part.
The learning tracks for the audition pieces are in the TAG Learning Tracks section of the MUSIC page and the sheet music is available in the DOCUMENTS page.
All parts of the audition will be recorded.
If you have any questions about the audition or the audition music, please contact Mr. Stroh using the contact info in the CONTACTS section. Please contact Mr. Stroh early with any questions that you might have. Make sure you give yourself enough time to prepare for your audition. This is a nationally known group and you must take the audition seriously.

Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur’s quest to find the Holy Grail. Inspired by the classic comedy film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the musical also diverts a bit from more traditional versions of the legend. Instead, Spamalot features shenanigans including a line of beautiful dancing girls, flatulent Frenchmen, and killer rabbits. Outside, there is plague with a 50% chance of pestilence and famine. Throughout the show, Arthur, traveling with his servant Patsy, recruits several knights to accompany him on his quest, including Sir Bedevere, Sir Robin, Sir Lancelot, and Sir Galahad. Besides the rabbits and farting Frenchman, they meet such characters as the Lady of the Lake, Prince Herbert, Tim the Enchanter, Not Dead Fred, the Black Knight, and the Knights who say Ni.

The auditions for the 2017-2018 edition of The A Cappella Group will be held in the choir room.

The auditions for the 2016-2017 edition of The A Cappella Group will be held in the choir room.

The auditions for the 2015-2016 edition of The A Cappella Group will be held in the choir room.
You must learn two pieces of music that will be available on this site by August 1. Hard copies of the music will be available at the Saturday Spectacular on August 22 and also the first day of school. Choose a part and learn the music. If you are a soprano, most songs have three soprano parts and you can choose which one that you want to learn.

All the hot gamblers are in town, and they're all depending on Nathan Detroit to set up this week's incarnation of "The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York"; the only problem is, he needs $1000 to get the place. Throw in Sarah Brown, who's short on sinners at the mission she runs; Sky Masterson, who accepts Nathan's $1000 bet that he can't get Sarah Brown to go with him to Havana; Miss Adelaide, who wants Nathan to marry her; Police Lieutenant Brannigan, who always seems to appear at the wrong time; and the music/lyrics of Frank Loesser, and you've got quite a musical. Includes the songs: Fugue for Tinhorns, "Luck Be a Lady", "Sit Down, You're Rocking the Boat".

The auditions for the 2014-2015 edition of The A Cappella Group will be held in the choir room.
You must learn two pieces of music that will be available on this site the week before school starts and hard copies will be available at the Saturday Spectacular on August 16 and also the first day of school. You will learn your parts and sing one song together with other people with only one person on each part. You will sing your part on the other song along with the mixdown.

Featuring a book by Patricia Resnick (co-writer of the original screenplay), 9 to 5 The Musical tells the story of three unlikely friends who conspire to take control of their company and learn there’s nothing they can’t do — even in a man’s world. Ragtime is a story about life in America at the beginning of the 20th century. The show illustrates poignant issues of the day - from immigration, racism and politics to industrialization and social upheaval. Historical figures intermingal with fictional characters. The show focuses on three families - one upper-middle class, white Anglo-Saxon Protestant, once socialist immigrant Jewish and one Harlem Black - whose intersecting lives are influenced by the Ragtime era's social challenges.

2. Perform your part with three other singers. You must learn a piece of music that will be available on this site the week before school starts and hard copies will be available on the first day of school. You will learn your part and sing it together with three other people with only one person on each part.
All parts of the audition will be recorded.

Audition Requirements:
1. Sing an unaccompanied solo that is 1 minute or less. This should be a contemporary song and not classical or musical theatre in nature. The song should show off your voice in both style and range. You need to demonstrate a connection to the lyrics and really be expressive in your performance.
2. Perform your part with three other singers. You must learn a piece of music that will be available on this site the week before school starts and hard copies will be available on the first day of school. You will learn your part and sing it together with three other people with only one person on each part.
All parts of the audition will be recorded.

3. You must participate in a dance call. You will be taught a dance combination and given 30-40 minutes to practice it. You will then perform the dance combination two times in groups of three.
Any student that is not going for a principle role may omit the monologue from your audition. Any student that is a very strong dancer or very strong actor but is not comfortable with your singing voice can opt to sing Happy Birthday for the audition. Students that sing Happy Birthday will not be considered for principal roles. Theatre majors may not omit the monologue and vocal majors are not permitted to sing Happy Birthday.

The auditions for the 2010-2011 The A Cappella Group will be held in the choir room.
You must also PERFORM the solo - don't just stand and sing it.
This is the most important part of the audition. Part singing is the main thing that you will do in the group and you must be able to be independent and hold your part. Devote most of your time to this part of the audition. Students have been selected to be members of the group with an average solo and great part singing. No student has every selected that had an amazing solo, but couldn't hold a harmony part.
All parts of the audition will be recorded.

Adapted from Nights of Cabiria, a film by Federico Fellini, Sweet Charity tells the story of an optimistic young woman, Charity, who not only wears her heart on her sleeve, she's had it tattooed to her arm! As the play begins, Charity finds herself dumped be the married man on whom she had pinned all her hopes and dreams, and she vows never again to be taken advantage of by a man. But Charity is too trusting and soon finds herself involved with an Italian movie star. The actor, however, is no better than the other men Charity has dated, and once again she finds herself jilted and alone. The next night, however, as fate would have it, she finds herself trapped in an elevator with a claustrophobic tax accountant who soon sweeps Charity off her feet. Soon it becomes clear that this man is different -- that he actually wants to marry her -- but will he still feel the same way when he finds out that Charity works at the FanDango as a dance hall hostess? With a great score that includes Big Spender, If They Could See Me Now and Rhythm of Life, this musical will delight all audiences.
