Cypress Lake Vocal Department

This Creole folk song is based on a poem by Louis-Marie Celestin. This text is about three drums: the big Boula (the loudest), the smaller Tanbouren (the most beautiful sounding drum), and the little Kata drum. The message behind this poem is that all members of a team must work together to achieve their common goal. if all of the drums work together, there will be beautiful music. The song itself expresses the sounds and roles of each drum through the music, and represents the teamwork between the three instruments. This song is both challenging and unique, which reiterates the message even further that working as a team is a difficult, yet unique experience.
