TAG Auditions

 —  —

Choir Room, 6740 Panther Lane, Fort Myers, FL 33919

The auditions for the 2024-2025 edition of The A Cappella Group will be held in the choir room. Any student that wishes to be a member must audition. YOU MUST TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION CAREFULLY IF YOU WISH TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE GROUP.

Audition Requirements:

  1. Sing an unaccompanied solo that is 1 minute or less. This should be a contemporary song and not classical or musical theatre in nature. The song should show off your voice in both style and range. If you are a high soprano, don't sing a song that is really low. You must also PERFORM the solo. Don't just sing it. You need to demonstrate a connection to the lyrics and really be expressive in your performance.

  2. Perform your part with other singers. You must learn two pieces of music that will be available on this site by June 20. Choose a part and learn the music. If you are a soprano, most songs have two soprano parts and you can choose which one that you want to learn. If you are an alto, there are usually two alto parts and the tenor 1 part is also sung by altos. If you are a very low alto, you should go for the tenor 1 part. Students with low voices have either tenor 2, baritone or bass to choose from. You will record each song in a practice room with just you singing while the mixdown plays in the background. This is the most important part of the audition. Part singing is the main thing that you will do in the group and you must be able to be independent and hold your part. Devote most of your time to this part of the audition. Students have been selected to be members of the group with an average solo and great part singing. No student has ever been selected that had an amazing solo, but couldn't hold a harmony part. The learning tracks for the audition pieces are in the TAG Learning Tracks section of the MUSIC page and the sheet music is available in the DOCUMENTS page. All parts of the audition will be recorded.

  3. If you are selected for the group, you must attend the TAG Retreat on Saturday, August 24. This date is non-negotiable. The retreat will start at 1:00 pm on this day to accomodate students taking the SAT in the morning.

If you have any questions about the audition or the audition music, please contact Mr. Stroh using the contact info in the CONTACTS section. Please contact Mr. Stroh early with any questions that you might have. Make sure you give yourself enough time to prepare for your audition.

Musical Auditions

 —  —

Black Box Theatre, 6740 Panther Lane, Fort Myers, FL 33919

All students wishing to be cast in The Wedding Singer, Into the Woods, and Shrek Junior must audition during one of the two audition days. Sign up for an audition slot by completing the Musical Audition Google Form. This form will be posted in all Center Google Classrooms and Class Classrooms.

Audition Requirements

You must perform a song from a musical. The song should be no longer than one minute. You will be asked to stop if you go over time. You must provide your own accompaniment or bring marked sheet music for Mr. Stroh to accompany you. Your background track may be any device with a headphone jack. If you use a track, it must not have any singers on it. Your performance of the song should not only show off your voice, but should demonstrate your ability to make the song come alive and be expressive. Choose a section of the song that works best for your voice, don't just start at the beginning of the song. There are almost no musical theatre songs in which the best part of the song to sing for an audition starts at the beginning.

If you would like to be considered for a principal role, you must perform a monologue. If you are just pursuing an ensemble role, you do not have to perform a monologue. The monologue should be 30 seconds to a minute long. It may come from a published play. The monologue must be memorized and should be something that you can portray well. Please avoid monologues that require accents or affected speaking. Make sure your monologue does not contain any questionable material or cursing.

You must participate in a dance call. You will be taught a dance combination and given 30-40 minutes to practice it. You will then perform the dance combination two times in groups of three or four. Any student that is not going for a principle role may omit the monologue from your audition. Any dance major that is a very strong dancer but is not comfortable with your singing voice can opt to sing Happy Birthday for the audition. Students that sing Happy Birthday will not be considered for principal roles. Vocal majors and musical theatre major are not permitted to sing Happy Birthday.
